HANOVER, Ind. – Hanover (1-1 overall) claimed the programs 500
th career victory on Saturday afternoon as a last second touchdown propelled the Panthers past Adrian 21-14.
The Panther offense was paced by senior quarterback
Matthew Weimer (Georgetown, Ind.) with a game-high 209 yards through the air and two touchdowns. Senior
Shawn Coane (Evansville, Ind.) added 128 yards on the ground on 22 attempts.
Defensively, senior
Kyle Treber (Mishawaka, Ind.) paced the way with a team-high 11 tackles, including seven solo stops. Junior
Devonte Hardiman (Princeton, Ind.) added 10 tackles, including three sacks for a loss of 13 yards.
Adrian would strike first in the contest as they took the opening kick-off 79 yards on seven plays for the 7-0 advantage.
Hanover responded at the 10:24 mark in the opening stanza as they traveled 58 yards on nine plays. Coane paced the drive as he got the call on second and nine traveling 14 yards to place HC inside Bulldog territory. Senior
Walt Ballinger (Beech Grove, Ind.) handled the rest as he grinded out the one yard score to knot the contest at 7-7.
The second half would see a scoring outburst as Hanover was able to capture their first lead of the afternoon at the 8:23 mark. The big strike came on second and seven as Weimer connected with junior
Hunter Eads (Batavia, Ohio) for a 47 yard hook up that saw HC land inside the Adrian 25 yard line. Coane went to work rushing for 34 yards before Weimer found tight end senior
George Kurtz (Owensboro, Ky.) for the go-ahead score, 14-7.
The Bulldogs tied the contest at 14-14 late into the half when Hanover once again responded . With just 1:12 remaining, Weimer delivered finding freshman
Jalen Peck (Bloomington, Ind.) for a three yard connection and score.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 18 when they travel to Albion. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
