Volleyball drops straight set match at MSJ

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Hanover Panthers (11-10 overall, 2-2 HCAC) dropped a competitive three set match at Mt. St. Joseph on Wednesday evening (25-19, 28-26, 25-17).

The Panthers were led in the match by junior Aubrey Walton (Linton, Ind.) and sophomore Maggie Schweitzer (Shelbyville, Ind.) with double digit assists. Walton posted a team best 14 while Schweitzer dished out 12. Defensively, Casey Dunn added 19 total digs.

Set one saw the Panthers on the wrong side of an early deficit when a three point rally capped by a kill from freshman Maddie Robertson (Mitchell, Ind.) pulled the Panthers within 15-12. They continued to push capitalizing on a pair of Lion hiccups before a Hanover mishap surrendered the set, 25-19.

The Panthers jumped out the gate quick in set two scoring the first four points with senior Emma Harmon (Carmel, Ind.) leading the charge. However, the Lions responded with a rally of their own knotting the score at 9-9. The Blue and Red refused to roll over as freshman CC Shick (Fort Thomas, Ky.) landed a kill that saw HC regain the 21-18 advantage. But once again MSJ responded rattling off the final two points for the two set advantage, 28-26.

The final set of the evening saw Hanover surge ahead 11-3 as freshman Elliot Mays (Jeffersonville, Ind.) paced the attack. Mt. Saint Joseph remained poise and used a 9-0 run to claim the slim 17-16 lead. They never looked back claiming the straight set victory, 25-17.

Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 15 when they welcome Bluffton to Collier Arena. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.
