HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers battled in a four set spectacular in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action against Transylvania, who recently received votes in the top 25 poll, on Wednesday evening, Hanover fell in the match 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-12, 25-18). The set win is the first Transylvania had surrendered in HCAC action all season.
Freshman
Elliot Mays (Jeffersonville, Ind.) and freshman
CC Shick (Fort Thomas, Ky.) paced the attack charting double digit marks. Mays added 12 while Shick charted 10. Junior
Aubrey Walton (Linton, Ind.) dished out a team best 20 helpers.
Set one saw the Panthers claw their way to an early advantage as kills by Shick, Mays, and freshman
Maddie Robertson (Mitchell, Ind.) capped a five point surge, 6-3. However, the Pioneers remained poise knotting the contest at 8-8 before claiming the slim 11-10 margin. The back-an-forth battle ensued when a four point run by Transylvania pushed the difference to 19-15. Hanover refused to roll over responding once more as a senior
Emma Harmon (Carmel, Ind.) kill tied the contest at 19-19. The Pioneers deemed too much connecting for the final four points, 25-20.
Hanover jumped out early in set two capitalizing on a Transylvania mishap, but the Pioneers rallied flipping the script 9-7. They would push the difference to 13-9 when Collier Arena erupted behind a Mays kill and a sophomore
Molly Schwarzkopf (Greenfield, Ind.) ace. The Panther surge ensued as Harmon landed a kill before the Blue and Red rattled off the final four points to victory.
The Pioneers silenced the crowd in set three stringing together a series of runs to claim the 25-12 win before finishing the match in set four 25-18.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 22 when they travel to Anderson. First serve is set for 2:00 PM.
