WHEATON, Ill. – The Hanover men's basketball team (2-2 overall) wrapped up play as part of the Wheaton Tournament on Saturday, defeating UW-River Falls 59-56.
The Panthers were paced in the contest by senior
Ty Houston (Union, Ky.) with a team-high 13 points while teammate junior
Max Greenamoyer (Zionsville, Ind.) added 11 points.
The first half saw a back-and-forth battle as neither team was willing to give an edge when a UW-River Falls 5-0 run push them on top 17-11. They continued to surge ahead when Houston connected from deep at the 5:47 mark cutting the difference to 22-21. Junior
Brice Gilman (Clinton, Ind.) netted the final first half blow as HC entered the intermission trailing 30-29.
Greenamoyer opened the second half strong for the Panthers as he connected on a three-pointer before a senior
Jack Wininger (Elnora, Ind.) deep ball propelled HC on top 37-34. The offense continued to fire on all cylinders as a 7-0 run pushed the lead to 44-37 with just over 10 minutes remaining. However, UW-River Falls battled back pulling within 57-53 when Greenamoyer halted the surge with a runner in the paint that sealed the non-conference victory.
