Baseball secures home opening victory over Centre

HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers used a third inning outburst to defeat Centre in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon as part of their home opener. The Panthers defeated the Colonels 5-4.

Picking up the win on the mound was sophomore Jordan Parker (Evansville, Ind.) throwing five and a third innings with three strikeouts.

After surrendering two runs in the top of the first inning, Hanover responded in the bottom half of the frame. Sophomore Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) provided the RBI with a single to the shortstop that would ultimately score both sophomore Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) and senior Andrew Littlefield (Louisville, Ky.), 2-2.

The third inning would see Jacob Dupps tack on two more runs for the Panthers as he homered to left field before freshman Andrew Oesterling (Batesville, Ind.) charted what would become the game-winning RBI pushing HC on top 5-2.

Centre looked to rally in the top of the ninth inning plating two runs before junior Charlie Joyce (Indianapolis, Ind.) retired the side and picked up his first save of the season.

Hanover returns to action on Saturday, March 19 taking on Wabash in a three game series.
