HANOVER, Ind. - The Hanover Panthers dropped a doubleheader this afternoon to the Spartans of Manchester in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action. The Spartans claimed game one 6-2 before taking the nightcap in similar fashion, 6-2.
GAME ONE
The Panthers jumped on top early using a one run second inning as freshman Andrew Osterling (Batesville, Ind.) tripled to right field scoring junior
Jacob Dupps (Louisville, Ky.), 1-0.
However, Manchester responded plating two runs in the fourth inning, one run in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning to claim the commanding 4-1 lead.
The Blue and Red looked to rally in the eighth inning as freshman
Jake Danneman (Edgewood, Ky.) reached home following a sophomore
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) steal that cut the deficit to 4-2.
But the Spartans deemed to much as they were able to retire the side and secure the 6-2 victory with a two run ninth inning.
GAME TWO
The nightcap saw a back and forth battle with both team's scoring a run in the first inning.
But Hanover would claim the lead in the bottom of the third inning as senior
Charlie Burton (Columbus, Ind.) hit a homerun to push HC in front 2-1.
The rest of the night belonged to the Spartans as they tacked on five more runs, including a two run fifth inning to secure the HCAC sweep.
Hanover returns to action on Tuesday, April 5 when they travel to Rose-Hulman.
