DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Hanover Panthers earned a split at Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Defiance, taking game one 5-1 before falling 8-4.
GAME ONE
Junior
Matthew Alter (Indianapolis, Ind.) got the start on the bump for the Blue and Red pitching six complete innings before handing the ball to freshman
Jaden Siemer (Edgewood, Ky.) who picked up his first win of the year.
After six scoreless innings, the Yellow Jackets finally were able to plate a run.
However, HC used a five run eighth inning to claim the game one victory. Senior
Charlie Burton (Columbus, Ind.) opened the inning for the Blue and Red with a single to left field that plated the Panthers first two runs. Freshman
Sam Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) followed it up with a single through the left side adding another run when freshman Jacob Danneman (Edgewood, Ky.) handled the rest with two RBI.
GAME TWO
Hanover surged ahead early using runs in the first, second and third inning before giving up a four run outburst in the bottom of third inning.
HC looked to rally in the fifth inning as sophomore
Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) singled to left center tying the contest 4-4.
However, Defiance got the final say adding three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and one in the seventh inning in rout to the 8-4 split.
Hanover returns to action on Sunday, May 1 when they travel to no.1 ranked Marietta. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
