HANOVER, Ind. – Hanover (3-6 overall) dominated the Golden Eagles of Spalding on Wednesday evening en route to the straight set, 25-14, 25-18, 25-23 non-conference victory.
The Panther attack was firing on all-cylinders as they recorded a game-high 38 kills, paced by the duo of sophomore
Molly Schwarzkopf (Greenfield, Ind.) and freshman
CC Shick (Fort Thomas, Ky.) with 10 kills apiece.
SET ONE
Set one saw the two teams jockey for position early when a three point rally led by sophomore
Maggie Schweitzer (Shelbyville, Ind.) propelled HC in front 12-7. The Panther excitement continued as Schwarzkopf delivered from behind the service line with six straight points extending the lead to 20-10.
HC never looked back capitalizing on a Spalding error to claim the set one victory, 25-14.
SET TWO
Hanover carried the momentum into set two jumping out to 12-8 advantage following back-to-back kills by Shick. Spalding pulled as close as 14-12 when Schweitzer once again deemed clutch finding freshman
Maddie Robertson (Mitchell, Ind.) for the kill.
The Panthers rattle off the final four points of the set to capture the 25-18 win.
SET THREE
The final set would see the Eagle soar as they were able to erase a 21-14 deficit, pulling within 22-21 after an eight point rally. However, the Panthers remained poise with Shick once again delivering on a kill that secured the straight set victory.
Hanover returns to action on Friday, Sept. 16 and Saturday, Sept. 17 when they host the Hanover Invitational.
