DANVILLE, Ky. – The Hanover Panthers (1-4 overall) battled for four sets at Centre but ultimately fell unsuccessful in the non-conference battle 25-22, 25-27, 12-25, 18-25 on Wednesday evening.
Leading the way for the Blue and Red was freshman
CC Shick 9Fort Thomas, Ky.) with a team-high seven kills while junior
Ella Reed (Lexington, Ky.) added six total kills. Defensively, the duo of junior
Casey Dunn (Fort Thomas, Ky.) and sophomore
Maggie Schweitzer (Shelbyville, Ind.) combined for 37 kills.
In the opening set the Panthers found themselves trialing early when a four-point rally paced by the service of Schweitzer gave HC the slim 7-6 advantage. Hanover continued on the attack with senior
Meredith Deckard (Bedford, Ind.) landed a service ace that pushed the Panther lead to 19-16.
Centre looked to rally pulling within one point when a Colonel miscue and back-to-back kills by Reed and Shick sealed the opening set, 25-22.
However, set two saw Centre battle from an early deficit using a six point rally late to capture the 21-22 lead. Hanover refused to roll over as a Centre miscue and Schweitzer kill flipped the script, 24-22. But it deemed not enough as the Colonels captured the game tying set, 27-25.
The Colonels would go on to win set three in dominating fashion 25-12 before securing the match victory in set four 25-18.
Hanover returns to action on Friday, Sept. 9 when they compete as part of the Pam Briggs Classic hosted by Capital and Otterbein.
