Panthers remain perfect with win over MSJ; Cook nets four goals

HANOVER, Ind. – In a battle of Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference unbeaten, the Hanover Panthers (11-1-3 overall, 7-0 HCAC) reigned victorious defeating the Lions of Mt. St. Joseph to remain perfect among league opponents and extended their win streak to seven, 6-0.

Despite being tested in the early minutes, the Panther defense held strong. Senior goalkeeper Maggie Hinegardner (Fort Thomas, Ky.) came up big in the 23rd minute making a huge save at point blank range. She provided another key stop moments later saving an attempt from just atop the 18-yard box.

The Panther offense played a very methodical half of soccer looking to catch the MSJ defense on their heels. Senior Jostin Reeves (Greenwood, Ind.) executed on just that in the 35th minute playing a perfect through ball to junior Beth Cook (Goshen, Ohio) for the 1-0 advantage.

Cook recorded her seventh double digit performance in the 50th minute using some fancy footwork, 2-0.

The Panthers continued to push the tempo of the HCAC contest finding the back of the net in the 55th minute as Reeves netted a dime pass from Cook, 3-0.

Cook and the Panthers refused to be tamed as the junior collected her second hat trick of the 2023 campaign in the 71st minute playing a one touch pass from senior Callen Johnson (Ashland, Ky.) to Reeves, 4-0.

The junior dealt her fourth exclamation point in the 80th minute helping to propel Hanover to the dominating 5-0 advantage.

The veteran Reeves secured the fantastic offensive performance with a touch goal to near post, 6-0.

The clean sheet marks the ninth of the season for Hinegardner as she claims the win in frame with five total saves.

Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 21 when they welcome the Ravens of Anderson as part of their breast cancer awareness contest. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
