HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers (12-1-3 overall, 8-0 HCAC) pressured frame getting an early goal to help propel them past Anderson 2-1. With the win, the Blue and Red secured at least a first round bye as part of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
As a unit, Hanover recorded 23 shots, 13 on frame. Junior
Beth Cook (Goshen, Ohio) led the Panthers as she set the program single season goal record with 22. She broke the previous record of 21 set in 2014.
The Panthers played a very aggressive game using their speed to test the Ravens. It paid dividends as junior
Beth Cook (Goshen, Ohio) deposited the go-ahead goal in the 7
th minute, 1-0.
The Blue and Red got another quality look at goal as senior
Jostin Reeves (Greenwood, Ind.) pelted a shot that kissed the woodwork in the 19
th minute. Hanover entered the intermission with a 7-1 shot differential.
However, Reeves refused to miss in the second half as she wasted little time finding the back of the net from a helper by Cook in the 46
th minute, 2-0.
The Ravens attempted a comeback cutting the difference to 2-1 as they soared past the Panther backline in the 52
nd minute.
But the Panthers got the final say when Reeves fired a shot at point blank range that was denied by the Anderson keeper but senior
Callen Johnson (Ashland, Ky.) was there to pick up the deflection for the score, 3-1.
The last blow came in the 83
rd minute with Cook playing a beautiful ball off the top iron for the commanding 4-1 victory.
Hanover wraps up the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 25 when they host Rose-Hulman. Game time is slated for 3:30 PM from the Soccer Complex.
