Panthers drop Lopata Classic to host WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Panthers moved to 3-2 overall on the year after dropping a competitive battle as part of the 39th annual Lopata Classic Championship with WashU 77-62.

Senior Ty Houston (Union, Ky.) paced the Panthers with a team-high 18 points and six rebounds. Senior Matt Munoz (Indianapolis, Ind.) added nine points for the Blue and Red.

Hanover found themselves out front early with Houston pacing the attack before the Bears responded. WashU was able to flip the script at the 15:58 mark using a small run to claim the 11-5 advantage.

The Panthers looked to reclaim the lead but proved unsuccessful as another Bear surge pushed them on top 24-11. Senior Max Greenamoyer (Zionsville, Ind.) was able to halt the charge late into the frame pulling HC within 38-24 at the intermission.

The second half would see Houston provide a key dagger as he hit from long range to pull the Panthers within 40-32. Hanover continued to chip at the difference with Munoz hitting from behind the arc at the 15:47 mark, 44-35.

However, HC was unable to shut down the Bear offense as they once again pushed the lead back to 57-47.

The rest was history as WashU went on to win the 39th annual Lopata Championship 77-62.

Hanover returns to the hardwood on Tuesday, Nov. 28 when they travel to Hope College. Tip-off is set for 7 PM.
