Box Score HOLLAND, Mich. – The Panthers (3-3 overall) hit the road for a competitive overtime thriller with the Flying Dutchmen of Hope. Despite a last stitch effort, the Panthers dropped a heart breaker 76-73.
Pacing the Panthers was senior
Max Greenamoyer (Zionsville, Ind.) with a team-high 21 points and eight rebounds. Senior
Ty Houston (Union, Ky.) added 12 points and seven rebounds.
After giving up a short Hope run, the Panther offense began to settle in as sophomore
Avery Saunders (Ladoga, Ind.) hit a layup to pull HC within 8-5. The offense continued to display success with junior
Coleman Sater (Ellettsville, Ind.) dealing back-to-back blows for the Blue and Red pulling them within 14-9 at the 14:29 mark.
However, the Flying Dutchmen used success at the charity stripe to push the difference back to 21-11 following a 7-2 scoring run. Hope's largest lead of the first half came at the 6:14 mark but the Panther pressure began to pay a toll. With Hope in foul trouble, Houston fueled a 7-0 run pulling HC within single digits. Hanover entered the intermission trailing just 33-29.
Hanover carried the momentum into the second half as Greenamoyer drained a three-pointer that saw HC pull within 37-34. After switching up the defensive set the Panthers made their move claiming their first lead of the contest at the 4:03 mark following another Greenamoyer deep ball, 57-56. He would provide the game tying dagger with 18 seconds remaining hitting a layup in the lane to force extra time.
In overtime, neither team led by more than 68-65 as Hope claimed the advantage. However, Houston had other things in mind connecting for a tough runner in the lane at the 2:40 point. Freshman
Cam Freeman (Indianapolis, Ind.) gave Hanover the lead moments later with an old fashion three-point play, 70-68.
But once again Hope came up big on the offensive side of the floor flipping the script with just 26 seconds remaining, 74-73. They were able to extend the difference to 76-73 when Greenamoyer looked to push for a second overtime. With just one second remaining Hanover was able to get the ball into the front court and into the hands of Greenamoyer who launched a three-pointer that just missed the final buzzer.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 2 when they open Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Earlham. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM.
