HANOVER, Ind. – In a contest that saw two very strong defenses, the Panthers reigned victorious claiming the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title 1-0 in double OT against Transylvania.
With the win, Hanover secured the NCAA automatic bid and will await the selection show on Monday at 1:30 PM.
Hanover saw four student-athletes claim all-tournament team honors in senior
Maggie Hinegardner (Fort Thomas, Ky.), sophomore
Erin Terry (Indianapolis, Ind.), senior
Kennedi Roehrig (Lagrange, Ky.), and most valuable player sophomore
Lauren Rainbolt (Carmel, Ind.).
The opening period saw Hanover pressure the net quickly as they were able get a great look from junior
Nora Ludwig (Cincinnati, Ohio) that hit the crossbar. Both team's continued to push the tempo with no luck as they entered half scoreless.
The second half would see Transylvania get a high percentage attempt on frame as they were able to get to point blank range but were denied by Hinegarnder.
Hanover dominated much of the second overtime period as they were able to find the game-winning strike in the 108
th minute of play. Rainbolt collected the strike as she played a beautiful pass from senior
Cassidy Lett (Walton, Ky.) en route to the 1-0 win.
