HANOVER, Ind. – Hanover (8-3 overall) extend their win streak to five straight games after defeating Asbury in non-conference action, 87-75.
Five Panthers finished in double figures led by senior
Ty Houston (Union, Ky.) with a team-high 21 points and nine rebounds. Freshman
CJ Walls (Louisville, Ky.) added a double-double netting 12 points with 10 rebounds while teammate freshman
Cam Freeman (Indianapolis, Ind.) added 14 points. The duo of junior
Coleman Sater (Ellettsville, Ind.) and senior
Brice Gilman (Clinton, Ind.) both added 10 points apiece.
In a very competitive first half, Hanover looked to pound the paint as Gilman hit a layup that gave HC the slight 8-5 lead. However, the Eagles offense was red hot using the deep threat to claim the 23-17 advantage midway through the frame.
Houston paced an 8-0 run that saw the Panthers tie the contest 25-25 at the 7:07 mark. The offense began to settle in for the Blue and Red with Sater giving HC the 31-29 advantage off a fastbreak opportunity. However, Asbury remained hot entering the intermission with the slim 36-35 lead.
The second half saw the Eagles lead by as many as 53-47 when Walls responded with back-to-back scores. The hot hands in the second half appeared to be the duo of Walls and freshman
William Herald (Fort Thomas, Ky.) who landed a three-pointer propelling HC on top 56-53 with 8:47 remaining.
The Panthers began to pick up steam as Herald once again drained a three-pointer that gave HC their largest lead to date, 67-60. The rest was history as the veteran fifth year Houston was able to secure the non-conference victory at the free-throw line, 87-75.
Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 3 when they travel to Anderson. Game time is set for 7:00 PM.
