HANOVER, Ind. – The Panthers (13-7 overall, 9-4 HCAC) staged a second half comeback to defeat Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference leader Anderson in overtime on Wednesday evening, 87-80.
Junior
Max Greenamoyer (Zionsville, Ind.) turned in an impressive performance netting a game-high 29 points while teammate junior
Brice Gilman (Clinton, Ind.) connected for 24 points.
The conference leading Ravens came out the gate soaring en route to the 29-17 advantage midway through the frame. Hanover chipped at the first half deficit with Gilman piloting the offense. The junior hit a runner in the lane before finding Greenamoyer on the wing for a key three-pointer with 5:47 to play, 33-22.
Greenamoyer looked to jump start the Panther offense hitting a transition layup when sophomore
Michael Donoho (Rockport, Ind.) stole the show with a coast-to-coast last second layup. Despite nine first half turnovers, Hanover entered the intermission trailing just 38-31.
The Panthers turned up the intensity in the second half using the three-point shot to pull within 41-37 before tying the score at the 10:54 mark. Greenamoyer gave HC the lead seconds later with another three-point shot, 53-52.
However, Anderson remained poise using their defense to fuel their offense flipping the script with 3:51 in regulation, 68-62. Gilman and Greenamoyer deemed to be the perfect one-two punch as they teamed up netting back-to-back blows to help force overtime.
Extra time was all Hanover needed with sophomore
Coleman Sater (Ellettsville, Ind.) going to work in the paint. The sophomore drew an old fashion three-point play before another Greenamoyer three-pointer erupted Collier Arena. The Panthers secured the victory at the free-throw line going 6-of-7 in the last 30 seconds.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 4 when they head to Earlham. Game time is set for 1:00 PM.
