HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover baseball team wrapped up their weekend series with Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Mount St. Joseph on Sunday afternoon taking game two of the three game series 3-0 before falling in game three 19-9.
GAME ONE
Hanover plated the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth inning with junior
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) bringing the big stick. The junior homered pulling his career total to 23, leaving him just two shy of the all-time Hanover record.
Sophomore
Grady Stickney (Cincinnati, Ohio) got in on the action in the top of the eighth inning as he too went yard pushing the Hanover advantage to 2-0.
The final run of the contest came later in the inning as sophomore
Sam Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) connected for an RBI sacrifice fly to center field scoring senior
Spencer Martinelle (Indianapolis, Ind.) propelling HC to the 3-0 victory.
Junior
Marcus Goodpaster (Indianapolis, Ind.) picked up the win on the mound throwing a complete game allowing just four hits with eight strikeouts.
GAME TWO
The Panthers dug themselves a bit of a hole in the series finale falling behind 12-0 through three complete innings. The Panthers looked to rally plating three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning led by an RBI single by sophomore
Jake Danneman (Edgewood, Ky.) that plated two, 12-3.
However, MSJ responded in the next half inning pushing the difference back to 14-3.
Martinelle used patients at the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning as he drew a walk to score another Panther run.
The Blue and Red made one final push in the bottom of the seventh as Christie connected for a double that scored two more runs before senior
Jacob Dupps (Louisville, Ky.) pushed across the Panthers final run. The comeback was not to be as Hanover fell in seven innings 19-9.
Hanover returns to action on Tuesday, March 28 when they travel to Centre.
