Christie sets Hanover home run record; Panthers sweep Earlham

HANOVER, Ind. – Junior Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) became the Hanover College all-time home run leader as the Panthers (10-17 overall, 4-7 HCAC) swept the Quakers of Earlham in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. Hanover won game one 11-5 before winning the night cap 17-4.
 
Christie moved his career home run total to 27 after connecting for two in today's series. He broke the previous record of 25 set by Greg Willman in 1982-1985.
 
GAME ONE
The Panther offense dominated at the dish. Senior Jacob Dupps (Louisville, Ky.)picked up the team's first RBI in the top of the first inning as he doubled scoring sophomore Jake Danneman 9Edgewood, Ky.), 1-0.
 
The top of the fourth inning saw the scoring frenzy ensue as sophomore Sam Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) drew a bases loaded walk to push the Panther lead 2-0.
 
Dupps added another RBI with a sacrifice fly to right field in the top of the fifth inning before Christie added his first RBI of the afternoon in the top of the sixth inning.
 
Later that inning, Dupps called game as he hit a grand slam that blew the game wide open, 9-0.
 
The final two Hanover runs came in the eighth inning with Christie providing the big stick, breaking the Hanover all-time home run record and propelling HC to the 11-5 victory.
 
Senior Matthew Alter (Indianapolis, Ind.) picked up the win on the mound throwing seven complete innings allowing just three runs on seven hits.
 
GAME TWO
The Panthers scored early and often using a three run first inning to blow the game wide open. Leading the surge was Danneman with a home run.
 
The offense continued to produce adding two more runs in the second inning this time with Dupps and Christie picking up the RBI, 5-0.
 
Earlham pulled within 5-3 in the bottom half of the inning when Mr. RBI man himself, Dupps provided a clutch double that pushed the Panther lead to 8-3. Sophomore Grady Stickney (Cincinnatik, Ohio) tacked on a RBI followed by a senior Spencer Martinelle (Indianapolis, Ind.)  home run, 15-3.
 
The Panthers final two runs came in the sixth inning as Martinelle drew a walk that secured the Hanover 17-4 victory.
 
Junior Marcus Goodpaster (Indianapolis, Ind.)claimed the win, remaining perfect on the mound.
