FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers (7-13 overall, 1-4 HCAC) dropped a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Franklin on Sunday afternoon falling in the first game 13-6 before dropping the nightcap 18-8.
GAME ONE
The Panthers dropped game one of a three game series with the Grizzlies of Franklin, 13-6.
The Grizzlies got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning before tacking on an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth inning for the 2-0 advantage.
Franklin plated four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 6-0.
Hanover responded in the top of the eighth inning as sophomore
Reid Douglas (Rossville, Ind.) charted the team's first RBI. Senior
Spencer Martinelle (Indianapolis, Ind.) picked up an RBI on the next at-bat before freshman
Keelan Dyson (Camby, Ind.) homered pulling HC within 6-5. Junior
Alex Christie provided the game tying knock later in the inning as he doubled down the left field line.
However, Franklin responded in the bottom of the eighth inning using a seven run outburst to win 13-6.
Senior
Matthew Alter (Indianapolis, Ind.) got the start on the mound throwing five complete innings with three strikeouts allowing just two runs.
GAME TWO
Franklin surged ahead in game two using a three run first inning before the Panthers responded.
Hanover responded in the next half inning as Dyson scored junior
Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) before Martinelle added another Panther run. Sophomore
Sam Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) knotted the contest at 3-3 following an RBI to second base.
Junior
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) picked up his seventh homerun of the season in the top of the third inning propelling HC to the 4-3 lead.
However, Franklin remained poise tacking on four runs in the bottom of the third inning for the 7-4 advantage.
The top of the sixth inning saw Christie tie the homerun record as he plated two runs pulling HC within 7-6.
But Franklin once again found success at the dish propelling the Grizzlies on top 18-8.
Hanover returns to action on Monday, April 3 when they wrap-up their three game series at Franklin. First pitch is slated for 4:00 PM.
