Baseball splits doubleheader with HCAC foe Rose-Hulman

HANOVER, Ind. – The weekend Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference. series with Rose-Hulman saw the Panthers (8-16 overall, 2-7 HCAC) post a 1-2 record as they took game one 10-8 before claiming the nightcap 7-3.
 
GAME ONE
The Blue and Red surged ahead in the top of the first inning as junior Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.)  just missed becoming the all-time home run leader with a ball that hit off the left field fence scoring sophomore Jake Danneman (Edgewood, Ky.), 1-0.
 
Junior Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) plated another run in the inning as he doubled to left field for the RBI before sophomore Grady Stickney (Cincinnati, Ohio) propelled HC on top 3-0.
 
Rose-Hulman responded in the top of the fourth inning pushing one run across before adding another run in the top of the fifth inning to cut the difference to 3-2.
 
Junior Eric Roudebush (New Palestine, Ind.) continued to have a strong series picking up an RBI for the Panthers in the bottom half of the fifth inning, 4-2.
 
The Fightin' Engineers continued to battle using patience at the dish to claim their first lead of the afternoon in the top of the sixth inning, 8-4.
 
However, Hanover got the final say as senior Spencer Martinelle (Indianapolis, Ind.) charted an RBI followed by sophomore Sam Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) pulling HC within 8-7 in the sixth. Danneman knotted the contest when Perkins stole home to give Hanover the 9-8 lead.
 
The final run came in the bottom of the seventh inning with freshman Robert Carroll (Hendersonville, Tenn.) dealing the RBI, 10-8.
 
Junior Wyatt Prather (Indianapolis, Ind.) claimed the win on the mound throwing one complete inning while sophomore Braxton Garner (Bowling Green, Ky.) picked up the save.
 
GAME TWO
The bottom of the third inning would see the Blue and Red surge ahead 1-0 as Farnsley delt the clutch hit that scored Danneman.
 
The next half inning saw Rose-Hulman knot the contest using a single to center field, 1-1.
 
The Fightin' Engineers would blow the game wide open in the top of the seventh inning scoring five runs on three hits for the 6-1 advantage.
 
The Panthers got two runs back in the bottom half of the inning with Roudebush connecting for the clutch double to right field that pulled HC within 6-3.
 
But the FIghtin' Engineers got the final say adding an insurance run I nthe eighth before retiring the Panthers and securing the series winning contest.
 
Hanover returns to action on Tuesday, April 11 when the Panthers welcome Centre to K.T. Young Ballpark. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM.
