DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Hanover (15-22 overall, 9-11 HCAC) baseball team swept the Defiance College Yellow Jackets in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon winning game one 4-0 before taking the twin bill 6-1.
GAME ONE
Junior
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) added to his home run record in the top of the first inning as the junior hit a solo home run that saw HC claim the 1-0 advantage.
The Panthers added to their lead in the top of the fifth inning as freshman
Robert Carroll (Hendersonville, Tenn.) and sophomore
Sam Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) both scored on a series of Defiance errors, 3-0.
The final run came in the top of the ninth inning as Christie collected the RBI with a sacrifice fly to center field, 4-0.
Junior
Marcus Goodpaster (Indianapolis, Ind.) remained perfect on the year moving to 8-0 with the win on the mound throwing a complete game with seven strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Hanover completed the sweep as they surged ahead 2-0 in the first inning. Leading the attack was junior
Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) as he doubled down the left field line scoring both Christie and sophomore
Jake Danneman (Edgewood, Ky.).
The top of the third inning, sophomore
Sam Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) pushed the HC lead to 3-0 with a sacrifice fly RBI before he added another run in the fifth inning.
The final Panther run came from the bat of Christie as he once again went yard to left center propelling Hanover to the 6-1 victory.
