Second half surge lifts Hanover past Wittenberg

HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers (2-0 overall) defeated Wittenberg on Sunday afternoon within the confines of Alumni Stadium, 3-1.

The Blue and Red were paced in the contest by junior Beth Cook (Goshen, Ohio) with a game-high six shots, five of which landed on frame. She also added a goal and an assist.

After surrendering a goal to the Tigers in the 7th minute, the Panther offense erupted. Cook led the surge netting the equalizer in the ninth minute to send Hanover into half knotted at 1-1.

Junior Kate Bettner (Noblesville, Ind.) landed the go-ahead strike as she headed a corner from junior Nora Ludwig (Cincinnati, Ohio) in the 59th minute to push HC on top 2-1.

The final blow came in the 67th minute as sophomore Lauren Rainbolt (Carmel, Ind.) played a deflected ball in front of net propelling Hanover to the 3-1 win.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 6 when they play host to University of Chicago. Game time is set for 3:30 PM.
