HANOVER, Ind. – Senior
Max Greenamoyer (Zionsville, Ind.) surpassed 1,000 career points as the Panthers (9-5 overall, 5-2 HCAC) dropped a double overtime heartbreaker to Transylvania, 108-102, on Wednesday evening.
Two Panthers claimed double-doubles as fifth year senior
Ty Houston (Union, Ky.) netted a game-high 31 points with 13 rebounds. Sophomore
Avery Saunders (Ladoga, Ind.) added 12 points with 11 rebounds. Junior
Kyle Crim (Manilla, Ind.) deemed clutch down the stretch for the Blue and Red as he added 15 points.
After trailing by as much as 48-29 to open the second half, the Panther offense went to work. They methodically made a run at the Pioneers chipping at the double-digit lead. Crim provided the momentum as he hit a three-pointer at the 4:45 mark to cut the difference to 71-65.
The intensity began to build as HC was able to once again combat a Pioneer attack that saw them trailing 77-70 with 1:43 remaining. Freshman
Cam Freeman (Indianapolis, Ind.) looked to steal the Transylvania thunder as he drained a three-pointer before a junior
Michael Donoho (Rockport, Ind.) dunk cut the score to 79-78. However, the Pioneers sank a pair of free throws with 11 seconds in regulation to push the lead back to three points. The fifth year senior provided as he dribbled the length of the court, navigating the Pioneer pressure, for the game tying dagger from the top of the key as time expired.
Free basketball didn't disappoint as the two team's continued to battle but this time Transylvania find themselves needing some late game heroics. Trailing 94-91, following a junior
Coleman Sater (Ellettsville, Ind.) layup, they delivered finding a three-pointer at the buzzer.
The rest was history with Transylvania outscoring HC in the double OT 14-8 en route to the 108-102 win.
