ANDERSON, Ind. – Panthers (13-8 overall, 4-2 HCAC) split with the Ravens of Anderson on Saturday afternoon capturing game one 15-4 in eight innings while surrendering game two in the ninth inning 9-8.
GAME ONE
ON THE MOUND
Senior
Matthew Alter (Indianapolis, Ind.) got the call on the bump throwing four innings with five K's. Junior
Chris Hautman (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) moved to 3-0 overall on the year as he pitched four complete, allowing just two hits.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
After being held scoreless through three innings the Panthers bats exploded. Junior
Reid Douglas (Rossville, Ind.) picked up the first RBI with a double to center field before a junior
Andrew Oesterling (Batesville, Ind.) sacrifice fly pushed the Hanover lead to 2-1. Junior
Matthew McCoy (Charlestown, Ind.) added an RBI scoring Douglas with sophomore
Robert Carroll (Hendersonville, Tenn.) adding the innings final run off a single to center field, 4-1.
However, the Ravens responded in the bottom half of the inning using a three run response to tie the score 4-4.
But Hanover forced a pitching change in the sixth inning scoring six runs on five hits. Junior
Jake Danneman (Edgewood, Ky.) led off the scoring with an RBI to right field before a senior
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) home run extended the Hanover difference to 7-4. Douglas added his second RBI later in the inning to give HC the commanding 10-4 advantage.
The Panthers added three insurance runs in the seventh inning and two in the eighth inning for the 15-4 victory.
GAME TWO
ON THE MOUND
Sophomore
John Girard (Richmond, Ky.) got the start pitching six complete innings allowing just three earned runs. He claimed his second win of the season.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Panther offense continued to fire on all cylinders as a senior
Eric Roudebush (New Palestine, Ind.) single up the middle to give Hanover the 1-0 advantage.
Anderson knotted the score in the bottom half of the inning before taking the lead in the second inning, 2-1.
Senior
Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) used a double in the third inning, scoring both Roudebush and Christie, to swing the momentum back in favor of the Blue and Red, 3-2.
In the top of the fifth inning, Oesterling singled to center field scoring both Roudebush and Danneman, 5-2.
Hanover added a run in the seventh inning off a Farnsley double before Christie added an RBI in the eighth inning.
The ninth inning saw the Blue and Red add another run before the Ravens responded in the bottom half of the inning plating five runs for the win.
Hanover returns to action on Tuesday, April 2 when they welcome Wilmington. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM.
