HANOVER, Ind.- The Panthers (15-8 overall, 6-2 HCAC) celebrated their senior day and were able to defend their home field against rival Franklin (13-9, 4-5 HCAC). The first game had a final score of 11-2 and the second game was another run party for Hanover with a score of 17-7 after eight innings of play.
GAME ONE
On The Bump
Senior Marcus Goodpastor (Indianapolis, Ind.) started the game for the Blue and Red throwing six strong innings allowing only one run with five strikeouts, this performance gave him his fourth win of the year. Junior
Chris Hautman (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) came in to finish out the game allowing only one run and two hits for the last three innings of play.
At The Plate
Hanover's day at the plate started early with them scoring three runs in the first inning thanks to a two RBI single by senior
Connor Farnsley (Jeffersonville, Ind.) and senior
Eric Roudebush (New Palestine, Ind.) crossing the plate after a hit by pitch.
The Grizzlies answered back scoring one run of their own, but the Panthers continued to be all gas scoring another four runs, one of which was an electric solo homerun by senior
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.). Thus, making the score 7-1 going into the final three innings of play.
Franklin scored in the eighth inning but were again answered by the bats of the boys in the cream jerseys. Hanover responded with a four run inning en route to the run rule win.
GAME TWO
On The Bump
Fifth year
Matthew Alter (Indianapolis, Ind.) threw seven innings keeping Franklin quiet allowing only two runs with five strikeouts. Freshman
Dalton Sisson (Bowling Green, Ky.) came in to finish it in the eighth inning giving up only one hit and getting one more K added to his total.
At The Plate
Hanover got off to another quick start scoring three runs in the first with
Eric Roudebush hitting an RBI double and
Connor Farnsley hitting a two-run homerun. The scoring continued in the second inning starting with an RBI single by Junior Jacob Danneman (Edgewood, Ky.) and a two RBI double from
Alex Christie to make it a 6-1 ballgame.
The Panthers continued to string runs together little by little scoring four runs in the fifth making it a 10-2 game.
Matthew McCoy pushed the lead with a homerun that sparked the Franklin offense. The Grizzlies looked to stage a comeback delaying the run rule for another inning. But Hanover had enough and took matters into their own hands scoring six of their own runs with a walk-off single hit by sophomore
Robert Carroll (Hendersonville, Tenn.) to seal the win.
Hanover will hope to bring out the brooms in hopes of sweeping Franklin concluding the series tomorrow, April 7th. Game time is set for 12 PM.
