Game Recap: Baseball |

Hanover wins series at Belhaven

JACKSON, Miss.- Hanover (7-3 overall) was able to scratch up a run in extras to beat Belhaven in game one before falling in extras in game two.

GAME ONE
ON THE MOUND

Fifth year Matthew Alter (Indianapolis, IN) threw seven innings for the Panthers allowing only two hits and one run. Junior Chris Hautman (Lawrenceburg, Ind.) came in, in relief for Hanover throwing three innings to claim his second win of the year.

AT THE DISH
Both teams remained scoreless until the seventh inning. Junior Reid Douglas (Roseville, IN) started the Hanover two out rally with a triple before junior Matthew McCoy (Charlestown, IN) got the RBI with a line drive to left field.

Belhaven responded in the bottom half of the inning using a game tying homerun to send the game to extras.

The 10th inning rolled around with both teams still tied 1-1. Douglas leadoff the inning by getting on base after a hit by pitch. Sophomore Robert Carroll (Hendersonville, Tenn.) got the RBI after an amazing bunt to put the Panthers up 2-1. This secured the victory for Hanover.

GAME TWO
ON THE MOUND

Sophomore John Girard (Richmond, KY) started the game for the Panthers throwing six innings allowing six hits and three runs. Junior Jaden Siemer (Edgewood, KY) came in for the seventh inning allowing two hits and two runs. Junior Ashton Dickmann (Greenfield, IN) proceeded to throw the eighth inning of the Panthers allowing two hits and three runs.

AT THE DISH
Senior Alex Christie (Greenwood, IN) wasted no time getting the Panthers on the board scoring junior Jake Danneman (Edgewood, KY).

Belhaven answered back the following inning plating two runs before tacking on another run in the fourth inning to give them the lead 3-1.

Hanover then started a two out rally to come back in the seventh inning thanks to junior Sam Perkins (Louisville, KY) and Danneman both walking to score a run. Christie then hit a line drive to left field to put the Panthers up 5-3 going into the bottom do the last inning.

Unfortunately, Belhaven answered back scoring two runs of their own on a single and a walk which allowed them to tie  the contest and send the game to extras.

Hanover was able to keep the scoring trend going in the eighth inning because of a line drive by senior Gabe Gowens (Lanesville, IN) to score sophomore Owen Boyce (Winter Haven, FL) that helped push the Blue and Red in front.

However, the Panthers luck ran out in the bottom of the eighth when the Blazers scored one run off of a double to right field and then a two run line drive for the walk-off win.

This game concluded the 3 game series between Hanover and Belhaven. The Panthers won the series 2-1.

Hanover will look to put another win on their record when they travel to Wilmington on March 13. The game is set to start at 3 pm EST.
