RICHMOND, Ind. – The Panthers (22-11 overall, 13-3 HCAC) put on a hitting clinic in the top of the ninth inning to rally past Earlham in game one of a three game series, 7-6.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
After trailing 2-0 for four complete innings the Panther offensive had enough. Junior
Reid Douglas (Rossville, Ind.) delt the first RBI as he went yard in the top of the fifth inning, 2-1.
Senior
Alex Christie (Greenwood, Ind.) added the game tying run in the eighth inning as he ripped an RBI up the middle. Hanover claimed the lead later in the inning off a Douglas sacrifice fly, 4-2.
However, Earlham responded setting the stage for an epic Hanover offensive display.
With the contest knotted 4-4 in the top of the ninth inning the Panthers charted back-to-back-to-back home runs. The first came from the bat of junior
David Newbanks (New Albany, Ind.) before sophomore
Gavyn Heiner (Vine Grove, Ky.) went yard. The final bomb came from the bat of sophomore
Robert Carroll (Hendersonville, Tenn.), 7-4.
Junior
Jaden Siemer (Edgewood, Ky.) called game in the bottom of the ninth inning as he charted the game's final strikeout and his fourth save of the year en route to the win.
ON THE MOUND
Senior
Matthew Alter (Indianapolis, Ind.) remained perfect on the year as he claimed his sixth victory throwing eight complete innings with six K's.
Siemer collected his fourth save of the season adding a strikeout on five pitches.
