NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Hanover (7-0 overall) knocked off Indiana University Southeast 3-1 on Tuesday evening to remain perfect on the year. The last time the Panthers opened a season 7-0 overall came in 2017 when they advanced to the NCAA Tournament after posting an 8-0 mark to start the year.
The Panthers saw three student-athletes tally double-digit kills with junior
Elliot Mays (Jeffersonville, Ind.) leading the surge. Mays recorded 12 kills and an impressive .345 hitting percentage. She also added a game-high 22 digs. Her teammate, senior
Maggie Schweitzer (Shelbyville, Ind.) dished out a game-best 22 assists.
Hanover attacked after surrendering the first set to the Grenadiers 25-21. The second set saw them use a convincing 7-0 run paced by freshman
Madison Schicker (Fishers, Ind.) from behind the service line en route to an 18-13 lead. Sophomore
Abbey McCoy (Indianapolis, Ind.) secured the set with a service ace that propelled them to the 25-19 victory.
IU Southeast looked to steal the momentum in set three surging ahead 12-8 before Hanover rattled off eight straight points. Hanover just needed the run to capture the 2-1 set lead.
McCoy secured the final set with her success from the service line. She capped a 5-0 surge to push the difference out of reach. Junior
Maddie Robertson (Mitchell, Ind.) recorded the final point as HC remained perfect.
