COLUMBUS, Ohio – Hanover (4-0 overall) remained perfect on the season defeating Capital Friday evening 3-1 (17-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23) as part of the Pam Briggs Classic.
Junior
Elliot Mays (Jeffersonville, Ind.) led the offense with a team-high 13 kills while freshman
Nicole Stratford (Lanesville, Ind.) tallied 11 kills. Senior
Maggie Schweitzer (Shelbyville, Ind.) dished out 24 assists and freshman
Madison Schicker (Fishers, Ind.) picked up 16 digs.
After surrendering the opening set, the Panthers righted the ship. A four-point outburst led by Schicker from behind the service line propelled HC in front 7-4. The scoring frenzy ensued with Mays capping a rally that saw them push the difference to 12-5. Capital made a surge late behind the attack of Chloe Preocanin pulling them within 24-22 before Hanover secured the set.
The momentum continued as Hanover was able to erase an early 7-2 deficit flipping the score in their favor with a four point run, 12-11. The two teams battled for several points before Stratford landed a kill that gave HC the 23-22 advantage. The Panthers rattled off the final two points for the victory.
The last set belonged to the Panthers after a convincing 7-0 rally propelled them on top 15-12. Hanover never turned back leading for the remainder of the set en route to the 25-23 win.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 7 when they take on Otterbein at 10:00 AM and Bethany College at 2:00 PM.
