Panthers remain unbeaten with sweep of the Pam Briggs Classic

COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers (6-0 overall) improved their win streak to six straight games remaining perfect as they swept the Pam Briggs Classic. The opening match saw HC defeat Otterbein 3-1 (14-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-19) before sweeping Bethany in straight sets 3-0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-23).

MATCH 1 – Otterbein
Sophomore Abbey McCoy (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the attack with a game-high 13 kills and a .235 hitting percentage while junior Elliot Mays (Jeffersonville, Ind.) added 11 kills and 15 digs.

Senior Maggie Schweitzer (Shelbyville, Ind.) dominated from the service line recording three service aces.

The opening set saw the Cardinals use a series of runs to claim a commanding 21-9 advantage. The Blue and Red looked to respond behind the attack of McCoy pulling within 22-12 but Otterbein was just too much rolling to the 25-14 win.

The Panthers were able to right the ship in set two as a 4-0 rally capped by a Schweitzer ace propelled them on top 7-4. The momentum shift came at the end of set two as the Panthers rattled off the final nine points, 25-13.

Set three would see junior Maddie Robertson (Mitchell, Ind.) pace an impressive rally soaring Hanover past the Cardinals 13-7. Mush like set two another late surge lifted Hanover to another set win, 25-16. The rest was history as Hanover continued to be all gas completing the 3-1 win over Otterbein.

MATCH TWO – Bethany

Mays led the attack against the Bison as she recorded a game-high 13 kills. Freshman Madison Schicker (Fishers, Ind.) tallied 16 digs with three assists.

Hanover made quick work of Bethany winning set one 25-11. Hanover opened the set with a 4-0 run that saw Robertson dominate on the attack. McCoy pushed the set out of reach before Mays secured it.

The next set saw Hanover surrender just six points to the Bison. They used a strong 12-0 surge in the middle of the set to force a Bethany timeout. Hanover captured the win 25-6.

The final set of the afternoon saw a little more fight by Bethany as they were able to keep it competitive when McCoy capped a five point outburst securing the straight set win.

Hanover returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 10 when they take on IU Southeast at 6:30 PM.
