RICHMOND, Ind. – Hanover (10-8 overall, 6-5 HCAC) survives a close call at Earlham on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Quakers, 75-70 behind an impressive performance by sophomore
William Herald (Fort Thomas, Ky.).
The first half was a battle for both programs as neither team led by more than six points. The Panthers captured their largest lead of the half at the 16:57 mark as senior
Luke Miller (Madison, Ind.) hit a three-pointer that saw HC on top 6-2. Minutes later senior
Coleman Sater (Ellettsville, Ind.) hit a layup that kept the difference at 8-4 but Earlham continued to defend.
The Quakers showed off their range deep into the frame as a three-pointer with 9:54 remaining saw them capture their first four-point lead, 15-11. Earlham continued to build on that as they pushed the difference to 27-21 with 1:27 remaining. Hanover cut the advantage to 27-24 at the intermission.
The second half saw a lot of scoring in the early minutes with the two team's exchanging buckets leading to the game's largest lead to date, 35-28 in favor of the Quakers. They were able to claim the double-digit lead with 15:30 remaining, 43-33.
Hanover refused to be tamed using a 10-0 run capped by a
Jeremiah Alexander jumper at the 10:59 point to pull the Panthers within 49-47. They reclaimed the lead with 5:29 to play following a key three-pointer by sophomore
William Herald, 61-60. Herald and the Panthers continued to grind as the sophomore connected for another momentum-shifting three-pointer at the 2:38 mark, 68-66. Herald was the key for the Panthers down the stretch scoring eight of the 10 points in the final two minutes en route to the 75-70 win.
