HANOVER, Ind. – The Panthers hosted their annual Cancer Game, welcoming Mount St. Joseph to Collier Arena for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest. Hanover (14-9 overall, 9-2 HCAC) dropped the five set battle 3-2 (18-25, 25-9, 25-20, 22-25, 10-15).
INSIDE THE STATS
Junior
Abbey McCoy led the Panther attack with a team-high 15 kills. She also added 11 digs.
Sophomore Maidson Schicker collected 24 digs while teammate junior
Megan Vogel dished out 25 assists. The junior also had 10 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a slow start that caught Hanover on their heels in set one, the Panthers were able to right the ship quickly. Surging ahead 6-0 in set two off the serve of senior
Kelsey Waggoner, Hanover stole all the momentum. The game-changing run came on the serve of Senior
Elliot Mays who contributed to nine straight points en route to the 25-9 victory.
Set three saw the Blue and Red continue to battle with freshman
Kinzee Dean providing the spark. The freshman landed a monstrous kill that helped push the HC advantage to 23-19. The duo of McCoy and Mays handled the rest.
The Panthers found themselves trialing for much of set four using the serve of
Brooke Gervers to claim a slim 13-12 lead. However, the excitement quickly dwindled as a 6-0 Lion run more than stole all the Hanover momentum.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday when they hit the road for Rose-Hulman. Fiest serve is slated for 11:00 AM.
