TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers (15-9 overall, 3-2 HCAC) claimed a crucial Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference road test on Saturday morning, defeating Rose-Hulman 3-1 (25-16, 18-25, 26-24, 25-20).
INSIDE THE STATS
Abbey McCoy led the Panthers with a game-high 16 kills, while senior teammate
Elliot Mays added 12 kills and
Kelsey Waggoner 10 kills.
Mays also added a game-high four service aces.
Megan Vogel piloted the Panther attack with 21 assists.
Brooke Gervers added 19 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After an early morning departure, the Panthers wasted no time, dominating the Fightin' Engineers with a quick 4-0 run in the opening set. The surge continued as freshman
Kinzee Dean connected for back-to-back kills extending the difference, 9-3. With all the momentum, Hanover was able to close out the set scoring four straight with McCoy and Mays delivering the deciding kills.
Rose-Hulman tied the contest with a set two win, before a very competitive set three. The Fightin' Engineers were able to capture the 12-6 advantage. However, Mays and McCoy stagged a comeback that cut the difference to 18-17 when a Mays service ace flipped the script. The Panthers completed the comeback, scoring the final two points for a 26-24 victory.
Set four were all Panthers as they refused to be denied the road win. Hanover pounced, using a 6-0 run led by Mays at the service line and Vogel on the attack for an 11-7 advantage. The offensive domination ensued as the Blue and Red rattled off the final four points claiming the 25-20 set win.
Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 29 when they head to Transylvania.
