Hanover, IN (Collie Arena) - Today, the Hanover College Panthers hosted Wabash College, Albion College, and Mt St Joseph University in the Hanover Classic (presented by AISIN Drivetrain), in recognition of the former head men's basketball coach here at Hanover College.
The four head coaches of the four teams playing in today's tournament, John Miller (HC), Kyle Brumett (WC), Jody May (AC), and Toby Carrigan (MSJ), all shared a common history of either coaching alongside or playing for the former head coach [at Hanover]. Albion faced MSJ at 1:00PM, and Hanover opened their season with Wabash at 3:00PM.
In the game, Hanover fell behind early, trailing by nine after three minutes of play. The Panthers were able to cut the Wabash lead to three about midway through the first half, but the Little Giants pulled away once again and closed out the half up 16 with the score at 46-30.
The second half was the same story as the box score showed an almost identical scoring output from both teams - the Panthers went on to fall in the contest, falling to 0-1 on the year.
HC saw some talent shine through despite falling short however, as sophomore center
Malachi McNair debuted the 2025-26 season with a 20 point and 16 rebound outing. McNair shot seven of eight from the field, 50% from three point land, and made five of his six attempts at the stripe. He also tallied five blocks and had an eight and eight offensive/defensive rebound split.
Junior guard
Cam Freeman and sophomore forward
Jack Miller each had ten points tonight, and Freeman added three assists to the mix.
The Panthers have the weekend to recover and Monday to regroup before their next tip-off against Spalding University on Tuesday, November 11th. The game will be in Collier Arena right here on Hanover College's campus, start time is scheduled for 7:00PM EST.
