Panthers Find First Win of the 2025 Season on the Road at Wilmington

Wilmington, OH - The Panthers, on a quick turn-around, traveled to Wilmington, Ohio to take on the Quakers in a non-conference match-up. HC just opened their 2025 campaign on Saturday, at home, against Wabash and looked to bounce back strong after suffering a five-point loss in their home opener.

The first quarter of action was all Hanover from the very first whistle. HC jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead behind an unassisted goal from junior attackman Colin O'Brien in the first two-minutes. The game would go scoreless for the next six-minutes before seeing a five goal run by the boys in blue.

Senior midfielder Owen Parker was the next Panther to find the back of the net, kick-starting the Panthers big run. Senior attackman Alex Kleinhelter got the ball in his stick a few possessions later and was able to navigate the Quaker defense and find freshman midfielder Kasey Hospelhorn near the crease for an easy finish - the Panthers went up 3-0 at this point.

Again, senior midfielder Owen Parker went to the cage and capitalized, unassisted. Freshman attackman Dean Henderson then found an opening and buried his first career goal with a stepdown from fifteen yards out, and senior midfielder Owen Cuniffe followed up with another unassisted goal for the Panthers increasing the lead to 6-0. Hanover went on to end the quarter in a shut-out lead behind senior goalkeeper Lance Guttormson.

In the second quarter, the game was much more closely contested as the Panthers were held to just three goals and the Quakers found their first two goals thanks to a two-minute non-releasable penalty against HC. Junior attack man Ethan Abdoo was able to secure one goal and an assist to senior attackman Alex Kleinhelter and senior midfielder Owen Parker found the back of the net yet again, marking his second hat-trick in the first two games of 2025.

Hanover entered the halftime break with a lead of 9-2 over the Quakers and seemed to be in full-control of the pace of play.

To begin the second half, junior attackman Ethan Abdoo opened up the scoring with back-to-back goals on assists from senior attackman Alex Kleinhelter and freshman midfielder Kasey Hospelhorn. Wilmington responded with one of their own to slow the bleeding at 11-3, but HC responded with two straight goals by the junior and senior attackman duo of Colin O'Brien and Alex Kleinhelter to end the third and begin the fourth.

The Panthers lead 13-3 after Kleinhelter's goal at the beginning of the final quarter of action. Then, after another man-up goal for the Quakers, freshman attackman Dean Henderson scored back-to-back goals for the Panthers - earning his first career hat-trick in only his second collegiate game and capping off the scoring for HC on the night.

Hanover went on to win the contest 15-5. HC will return to action this Saturday, February 15th, on the road again in Rock Island, IL to take on the Vikings of Augustana College. First face-off is scheduled for 1:00PM CST | 2:00PM EST.
