HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers (6-11 overall, 2-2 HCAC) made their home debut within the confines of K.T. Young Ballpark on Monday afternoon welcoming the Quakers of Earlham for Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action. Hanover dominated game one, winning 17-4 in seven innings. They continued to dominate, sweeping the Quakers with a 12-3 game-two win.
GAME ONE
ON THE BUMP
Freshman
Dylan Lloyd (Colerain, Ohio) had an impressive outing for the Blue and Red, throwing six complete innings with 10 strikeouts on 33 batters faced.
Sophomore
Ashton Carie (Madison, Ind.) got the call to close, throwing one inning with three strikeouts.
AT THE DISH
Hanover quickly gave the home crowd a reason to get rowdy as senior
Reid Douglas (Rossville, Ind.) went yard in the bottom of the first inning scoring senior
Jake Danneman (Edgewood, Ky.).
The home run derby continued as sophomore
Nickey Gutzwiller (Cincinnati, Ohio) belted a home run to right field pushing HC in front 4-1. The final run of the inning came from the bat of sophomore
Wesley Stiller (Greenfield, Ind.) who singled to center field, 5-1.
Junior
Josh Simpson (Bardstown, Ky.) made his debut inside K.T. Young Ballpark a memorable one with a homer to right field in the bottom of the third inning, 6-1.
Earlham added three runs in the fourth inning, cutting the deficit to 5-4.
However, Hanover blew the contest wide open in the bottom half of the fourth, scoring six runs on three hits. Senior
Sam Perkins (Louisville, Ky.) doubled to left field followed by a junior
Trevor Jones (Indianapolis, Ind.) single up the middle giving HC a 10-4 lead. Junior
Owen Boyce (Kennesaw, Ga.) charted the final RBI en route to the 12-4 difference.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Hanover secured the win by adding five insurance runs on six hits for a 17-4 win.
GAME TWO
ON THE MOUND
Freshman
Wyatt Colvin (Prospect, Ky.) got the start for the Panthers throwing six complete innings with four strikeouts.
Simpson closed out the contest, pitching one complete inning in relief.
AT THE PLATE
The offense remained red-hot in game two scoring five runs in the first inning.
Josh Simpson remained a nightmare at the dish as the junior hit a two run bomb to right field, 5-0.
Hanover added three more runs in the second inning with some help from freshman
Ben Brittingham (Brownsburg, Ind.). The freshman doubled to left field scoring Douglas, 8-0.
Jones collected an RBI in the fourth inning with a single up the middle to extend the Hanover lead. The Panthers secured the commanding sweep by plating one run in the seventh inning and two in the eighth inning.
Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, March 26 when they host Otterbein. First pitch is slated for 1:00 PM.
