Fayetteville, N.C. - Hanover traveled to Fayetteville, North Carolina to open up their season with a seven inning double header against Hobart College. The Panthers battled hard but ultimately fell 11-3 in game one and 5-3 in game two.
Game One
At The Plate
Freshman
Jack Shaeffer (West Lafayette, IN) got the first run of season across with an RBI single in the third to tie the game at 1-1. Sophomore
Trey Pipenger (Richmond, IN) followed up with another RBI single in an attempt to start a comeback in the fourth inning.
In the seventh inning,
Jack Shaeffer tallied another RBI but unfortunately this was all the Panthers had to close out the contest.
On The Bump
Senior
John Girard (Richmond, KY) got tasked with the starting role, tossing for four innings giving up only two earned runs and striking out six. Senior
Will Rodriguez (Deland, FL) had the final inning allowing only one earned run.
Game TWO
At The Plate
The boys in blue started to come alive in the third and fourth inning scoring three runs started by an RBI double in the third by Senior Joshua Simpson (Bardstown, KY).
In the fourth inning
Jack Shaeffer put his body on the line to get a HBP RBI. However, the Panthers were unable to secure run support dropping the comntest.
On The Bump
Freshman
Evan Vogt (Carmel, IN) got his first start for Hanover tossing three innings allowing five runs and striking out four.
The bullpen was active the second game. Senior
Quinten Shewmaker (Floyds Knobs, IN) had the fourth striking out two. Junior
Ashton Carie (Madison, IN) was tasked with the fifth inning and struck out one with no hits. Freshman
Michael Kirk (Loveland, IN) closed it out allowing no runs and striking out one.
Hanover hope to pick up their first win of the season when they take on Methodist on Sunday, February 22. Game time is set for 2:00 PM EST.
