HANOVER, Ind. – The Panthers (2-4 overall) forced overtime against Benedictine with late second heroics. However, the Blue and Red would ultimately fall short 13-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hanover erased a two goal deficit in the final minute of regulation to force an exciting overtime. Trailing 12-10, the Panthers wasted several seconds of the shot clock, killing a Panther penalty, to release the HCLC Offensive Athlete of the Week,
Jack DeWeese. The freshman was clutch as he took a pass from sophomore
Dean Henderson with 53 seconds remaining, finding the back of the net, 12-11.
With just under 15 seconds remaining in regulation, following a Hanover timeout, sophomore
Kasey Hospelhorn went to work. The attackmen worked his way from right to left in front of frame, using a DeWeese screen to net the game tying goal. Hanover got one final look at frame as time expired with the Eagles keeper posting a crucial stance.
However, the game's final dagger came just seconds into overtime as Benedictine was able to navigate the Panther defense for the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
DeWeese finished with a game-high six goals on 18 shots, 10 of which landed on frame.
Freshman
Mack Langridge recorded a hat trick, scoring three goals on seven shots.
In frame, senior Matthew Hilliard was outstanding charting 11 saves with two ground balls.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday when they welcome Washington and Jefferson to Alumni Stadium.
