HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover College women's soccer team earned its third straight victory Wednesday evening, defeating Great Lakes Christian College 3-1
INSIDE THE STATS
Hanover controlled the run of play across the full 90 minutes, outpacing the Crusaders 16-3 in total shots with a 7-2 advantage in shots on frame. The Panthers also earned a 4-2 edge in corner kick opportunities.
Senior
Abby Smith, scored two goals and dishing out an assist to finish with five points on the night. Junior
Kaleigh Schirmer also posted a multi-point performance, registering a goal and two assists.
Defensively, the Panthers held Great Lakes Christian to just two attempts on frame, with goalkeeper freshman
Kendall Moore recording one save to help preserve the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hanover struck first in the 23rd minute when Schirmer found the back of the net off combination play from junior
Sydney Elliott and
Abby Smith, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Panthers wasted no time extending their margin after the break. Just over three minutes into the second half, Schirmer delivered a pass to Smith in the 49th minute, who finished to make it 2-0.
Great Lakes Christian cut into the deficit in the 54th minute as Meela York scored off assists from Jade Murdoch and Carolina Baccili to make it 2-1.
Hanover scored one last time in the 82nd minute when Smith tallied her second goal of the evening, finishing off a feed from Schirmer and freshman
Corinne Stevens to secure the 3-1 result.
