MADISON, Ind. – The Hanover Panthers opened the season with a strong defensive performance, defeating Centre College under the lights at Cub Field, 17-0.
INSIDE THE STATS
The Hanover defense stifled the Centre offense, holding them to just 166 total yards of offense, just 88 passing yards.
Sophomore
Gavin Rand and sophomore
Cole Shively paced the pressure, each charting six tackles. Shively finished with two tackles for loss and an interception.
Offensively, Hanover stuffed the stat sheet collecting 374 total yards and a game-high 253 yards through the air. Senior
Eian Roudebush was a force under center throwing for 253 yards and a touchdown, while churning 58 yards on the ground with a score.
Junior
Jack Pennington secured the home run ball for 76 yards and a score, finishing the evening with 98 total yards on three receptions.
Sophomore
Nick Stoner paced the special teams effort, tallying 289 total yards on seven punts, including one punt of 47 yards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hanover struck first midway through the opening frame as Roudebush found Pennington for a 76-yard touchdown pass, 7-0.
The Panthers extend their lead in the second quarter with a methodical 64-yard scoring drive. Roudebush capped the eight-play drive with a two-yard scamper for the end zone, 14-0.
After a back-an-forth battle in the third quarter, that saw both teams punt for a combined five times, Hanover added the final points of the night.
Junior
Johnathan Tally delivered the blow in the fourth quarter with 11:18 remaining on a 19-yard field goal try that propelled Hanover to the 17-0 victory.
Hanover returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 12 when they travel to Maryville College. Kick-off is slated for 1:00 PM.
