Box Score HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's lacrosse team received stellar performances from seniors Mallory Fogus (Grosse Ile, Mich.) and Abby Shroyer (Zionsville, Ind.) as the Panthers cruised to a 13-2 victory over Earlham in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference action Wednesday evening.
Fogus paced the Panthers (6-3, 3-0 ORLC) in points Wednesday, accumulating seven on five goals and two assists. The senior also tallied a team high in shots (9), shots on goal (7) and draw controls (6).
Her classmate led the defense, as Shroyer tallied a team-best 11 groundballs and six caused turnovers. Shroyer also logged three draw controls, as HC enjoyed a 10-7 edge in the statistical category over the Quakers (1-5, 0-2 ORLC). The senior picked up her first point of the season on her first collegiate assist in the first half.
After a seven-point performance last time out against Olivet (Mich.), junior Rachel Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) added three goals and two assists for five points Wednesday. Davis' two helpers improved her season-high team total to 11.
Sophomores Meg Finn (Newburg, Ind.) and Kinna Laymon (Fishers, Ind.) each recorded multiple points in the win, while classmates Jillian Church (Goshen, Ky.) and Tayia Davis (Fishers, Ind.) each added a first half goal.
Hanover's offense got off to a torrent pace to open the contest, scoring four times less than five minutes in. Four different Panthers scored during the game-opening spurt.
After Earlham logged their lone first half goal, the Blue and Red ended the period on a 6-0 scoring run, earning a 10-1 advantage at the intermission. Fogus finished with three first half goals, including two during the half-ending run.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Fogus tallied what would be here fourth score of the game and the Panthers led by 10 goals, 11-1, initiating the "running clock rule" for the remainder of the period. Fogus was a part of all three scores for HC in the second half, tallying two goals and one assist on a score from Rachel Davis.
Earlham would finish with 32 giveaways in the contest, as HC recorded a season-high 18 caused turnovers. Shots were also in clear advantage of the Panthers, 31-8, including a 23-5 edge on goal.
Senior Amanda Mousa (Springboro, Ohio) and sophomore Julia Long (Cincinnati, Ohio) combined to allow just two goals in net, making three total saves. Both goalkeepers also retrieved three groundballs.
Hanover, who is already off to its best conference start in program history, will look to keep the momentum going when they travel to face ORLC-rival Transylvania (Ky.) at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 4.
