Women's Tennis Falls in Tough HCAC Tournament Match-Up

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. - The women's tennis team fell in the semi-finals of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon hosted at the Top Seed Tennis Club.

The No. 2 seed Panthers fell to No. 3 seed Transylvania 5-1, who advances to Sunday's HCAC Tournament Championship. 

The teams lone win came at No. 6 singles where sophomore Maddie Shannon (Anderson, Ind.) defeated her competitor 6-3, 6-0. 

In doubles action, the Blue and Red battled tough as senior Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.) and Farrell teamed up at one doubles, dropping the tight match 8-4. At No. 2 doubles, the team of sophomore Maddie Shannon (Anderson, Ind.) and senior Lizzy Katzenberger (Crawfordsville, Ind.) fell 8-6, while senior Mia Katzenberger (Crawfordsville, Ind.) and junior Haley Parker (Leo, Ind.) dropped their match 8-6.

Jones looked to bounce back at No. 1 singles but was unsuccesful as she fell 6-2, 6-3. After falling 6-0 in set one, Lizzy Katzenberger looked to make a come from behind victory but couldn't hang on as she fell at No. 3 singles, while teammate Mia Katzenberger competing at No. 4 singles. 

Rounding out play for the Panthers were senior Meghan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Parker, at No. 2 and No. 5 singles respectively.
