Women's tennis falls to Augustana in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Hanover women's tennis team began its Winter Break trip at the USTA National Training Center Sunday afternoon, falling to Augustana (Ill.), 7-2.

The Panthers (12-2), who entered the spring 12-0, have now lost back-to-back matches. Augustana improves to 10-1 with the win.

Senior Susie Winternheimer (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior Meghan Farrell (Indianapolis, Ind.) were paired once again in the top doubles spot, as the tandem won 8-4. The combo of senior Ruth Gaston (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior Lizzy Katzenberger (Crawfordsville, Ind.) nearly gave HC two doubles victories before falling 8-7 at No. 3.

All six singles matches were determined in straight sets, with sophomore Mia Katzenberger (Crawfordsville, Ind.) earning the lone win for the Blue and Red. Katzenberger won 7-5, 6-0 in the sixth slot. Farrell and junior Cami Jones (Richmond, Ind.) each took one set to 12 games before bowing out to a 7-5 decision. Farrell won the second most games of any Panther in singles competition with eight.

Hanover will continue its annual Winter Break, southern swing with a match against NCAA Division II Davenport (Mich.) at 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 25.
