HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover women's lacrosse team earned its second consecutive victory with a 14-0 shutout over Muskingum Tuesday evening at Alumni Stadium.

The Blue and Red recorded their first clean sheet in the five-year existence of the program, with a combined effort from junior Julia Long (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman Delaney Benner (Indianapolis, Ind.), who made nine total stops in net.

The Panthers improved to 2-2 overall with the victory, while Muskingum (Ohio) fell to 0-4 to start its 2019 campaign.

Junior Kinna Laymon (Fishers, Ind.) became the third player in program history to hit 100 career points with her three goals and two assists on the day. For her career, the junior now has 88 goals and 16 assists. Laymon also co-led the Blue and Red in points with senior Rachel Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.), who notched a pair of scores to accompany a trio of dimes.

Hanover struck early and often, beginning just over two minutes into the contest when junior Meg Finn (Newburg, Ind.) hit a free position shot at the 28:14 mark. Freshman Milah Young (Osceola, Ind.) tallied her first career goal at 26:07, followed closely by a score from Laymon at 25:47. At that point, the Panthers led 3-0.

Between 25:47 and 10:12 on the clock, HC hit the back of the net seven more times, with goals from Davis, Laymon, and a trio of juniors in Laurel Atchison (Florence, Ky.), Emma Boomershine (Louisville, Ky.), and Sarah Todd (Columbus, Ohio). By halftime, the Panthers held a 12-0 advantage over the Fighting Muskies.

The second half saw a pair of scores from Todd and freshman Dianet Sanchez-Vega (Louisville, Ky.) along with eight saves from Benner.

For the afternoon, the trio of Atchsion, Boomershine, and Todd had two goals apiece, with each accomplishing this in three shots or less. Todd also added a pair of groundballs and caused turnovers to her statline. Defensively, junior Anna Zumvorde (Cincinnati, Ohio) paced the Panthers with three caused turnovers.

As a unit, the Blue and Red outshot the Fighting Muskies 34-14 including a 21-3 gap in the first 30 minutes. In terms of ball control, the Panthers had just 15 turnovers to 27 for Muskingum, with the defense causing 12 giveaways.

Hanover will next take the field at 4 p.m., Thursday, March 7, when the team hosts the Aurora (Ill.) Spartans.
