HANOVER, Ind. -- The Hanover women's lacrosse team was the first squad on the scoreboard Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Stadium, but it was not enough as they fell by a score of 16-4 to DePauw (Ind.).

Junior Kinna Laymon (Fishers, Ind.) notched a pair of scores to increase her season total to 33 goals and also added one ground ball. Freshman Milah Young (Granger, Ind.) contributed a score along with a trio of draw controls and three caused turnovers.

The Panthers (3-7) opened scoring when Young converted on a free position attempt with 24:55 left in the first half, giving them an early 1-0 lead. Although the Tigers (4-6) scored three unanswered goals inside five minutes, Laymon was able to close the gap to 3-2 with 19:13 remaining in the period. However, DePauw ended the half by hitting the back of the net six consecutive times to make it a 9-2 Tiger advantage.

Laymon and junior Emma Boomershine (Louisville, Ky.) notched the first two scores of the second half, which brought the score to 9-4 with 28:15 left in the contest. From there, however, the Tigers would score seven more times and hold HC scoreless to seal the game.

For the day, senior Rachel Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) and junior Laurel Atchison (Florence, Ky.) each added dimes, with Atchison also tallying a pair of draw controls and one grounder.

Defensively, junior Julia Long (Cincinnati, Ohio) made 12 saves while leading the Blue and Red with four groundballs. Senior Maria Cornacchione (Cincinnati, Ohio) and freshman Emily Christian (Louisville, Ky.) co-led the unit along with Young, as each notched three caused turnovers.

The Panthers will look to regain traction as they travel to face Franklin (Ind.) in Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference action at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 6.
