HANOVER, Ind. - Juniors Laurel Atchison (Florence, Ky.) and Kinna Laymon (Fishers, Ind.) each recorded collegiate-best totals in points as the Hanover women's lacrosse team cruised to a 23-4 win over Franklin (Ind.).

The Panthers improved to 4-7 with the triumph, including a 1-1 slate in the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference. Meanwhile, the Grizzlies drop to 0-4 overall with a 0-1 mark in the HCLC. The 23 goals for HC fell one shy of tying a program record, set during a 24-1 triumph over Waynesburg (Pa.) last spring. 

The Blue and Red opened scoring early, as freshman Milah Young (Granger, Ind.) dished a pass to Atchison, who was able to find the back of the net with 27:31 on the clock. Following, Laymon added a pair of unassisted scores at the 25:07 and 20:38 marks to help Hanover to a 3-0 lead.

Laymon, Young, and junior Emma Boomershine (Louisville, Ky.) tacked on scores in the three minutes following, helping HC to an early 6-0 advantage with 17:34 left in the half. The Grizzlies responded quickly with 16:47 left until halftime to cut the score to 6-1. However, the Panthers closed the half by outscoring Franklin 6-2, effectively taking a 12-3 lead into the half.

In the second half, Hanover rifled off eight unanswered strikes to start, which effectively overcame the Grizzlies. During the run, freshmen Anne Breeding (Miamiburg, Ohio) and Eme Edman (Niles, Mich.) notched their first collegiate scores as the Panthers pulled away.

Offensively, Laymon had a career-high nine points while tying a personal-best of seven scores. Atchison, meanwhile, recorded collegiate-records in both points and goals, as she had six and four in the respective categories. Senior Rachel Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished her day with a pair of goals and four dimes for six points, while Young and junior Meg Finn (Newburg, Ind.) each notched four points.

Defensively, junior Julia Long (Cincinnati, Ohio) had five saves in the net along with a grounder. Senior Hannah Mundt (Prospect, Ky.) had three caused turnovers and five groundballs, while classmate Maria Cornacchione (Cincinnati, Ohio) had a pair of forced giveaways along with one score.

The Blue and Red will next take the field on Wednesday, April 10 at 4 p.m., when they host conference-rival Transylvania (Ky.) at Alumni Stadium.
