Beurman Throws First Career No-Hitter to Lead Hanover on Day Two of The Spring Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, FLA. - Junior Lily Beurman (Evansville, Ind.) recorded her first career no-hitter as the Panthers split on day two of The Spring Games falling to Cabrini before defeating Northern Vermont-Johnson 14-0.

Beurman paced the Hanover (2-2 overall) defensive efforts while junior Rachel Cox (Indianapolis, Ind.) dominated at the plate going 5-for-7 with two RBI and two runs scored. The junior also found success in the base paths charting two stolen bases.

After dropping the opener, the Blue and Red bounced back taking game two behind Beurman who recorded her first career no-hitter, striking out 11 Northern Vermont-Johnson hitters.

Beurman opened the contest for the Panthers at the dish as she tallied an RBI in the top of the first inning propelling Hanover to the 2-0 advantage.

Freshman Nikki Bridgers (Florence, Ky.) recorded her first career RBI in the top of the third inning as she hit a single up the middle that plated both freshman Kendra Hutchison (Lafayette, Ind.) and senior Shelby Edington (New Goshen, Ind.) to extend the difference to 4-0.

In the top of the fourth inning, sophomore Kiley Shedron (Cloverdale, Ind.) reached on an error before Edington singled through the left side advancing pinch runner junior Brittney Ralston (Hanover, Ind.) to scoring position. She reached home on the next at bat following an RBI by Hutchison that gave HC the 5-0 lead. The innings final run came off a hit from Bridgers who singled to third base scoring Edington.

The offensive explosion happened for the Panthers in the top of the fifth inning as Dickinson reached first before pinch runner, freshman Paige Knowling (New Market, Ind.) advanced to second on a NVU-Johnson miscue. She would cross home plate on the next at bat as Beurman placed the ball on a rope to the outfield. Edington singled to left field scoring another Panther run before junior Nettie Eigel (Madison, Ind.) tallied her first hit of the week with a single up the middle the propelled HC to the convincing victory.

In the opener, Cabrini looked to plate the games first run in the top of the second inning as they loaded the bases on freshman, pitcher, Paige Knowling (New Market, Ind.). However, Knowling had other things in mind as she was able to record a third out strikeout and eliminate the threat.

The defense continued to play a role early as Cabrini plated a runner in the top of the third inning before Edington came through with a double play at second base retiring the side.

But the excitement wouldn't last long for the Panthers as the Cavaliers plated four runs in the top of the fourth and five runs in the fifth to claim the 9-0 win.

The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, February 26 as they take on Northern Vermont-Johnson at 2:15 PM followed by St. Joseph's (Brkln) at 4:30 PM.
