Box Score 2 HANOVER, Ind. – The Hanover softball team welcomed Manchester for Senior Day on Sunday afternoon as the Panthers swept the Spartans in dramatic fashion. Hanover claimed game one 2-1, before taking game two in extras 7-6.
GAME ONE
The series opener started as a pitchers dual with neither team able to get anything going when Hanover broke the scoreless tie. Senior
Rachel Cox (Indianapolis, Ind.) delivered the game's first run as she hit a sacrifice fly to center field that scored senior
Brittney Ralston (Lexington, Ind.), 1-0.
However, with their backs against the wall, the Spartans responded plating the game tying run in the top of the seventh inning off an RBI double to center field.
The Panthers refused to roll over as they used a one run seventh inning to capture the walk-off victory. Senior
Mackenzie Smith (Jeffersonville, Ind.) provided the final dagger as she hit an RBI that scored sophomore
Kensie Bradley (Greenfield, Ind.) en route to the win.
Senior
Lily Beurman (Evansville, Ind.) picked up the win in the circle as she pitched a complete game with two strikeouts.
GAME TWO
Sophomore
Kendra Hutchison (Lafayette, Ind.) wasted little time making her name known at the dish in game two as she hit a triple to center field that scored Bradley. The final run of the inning came off the bat of sophomore
Katherine Dickinson (Francisco, Ind.) who charted an RBI to second base pushing the lead to 2-0.
However, Manchester responded adding two runs in the top of the fourth inning before adding two more in the fifth inning for the 4-2 advantage.
Hanover looked to rally in the bottom of the sixth inning as freshman
Ava Hilgenhold (Tell City, Ind.) hit an RBI double to center field that scored Dickinson, 4-3. The game tying run came in the bottom of the seventh inning as Beurman doubled to left field scoring Hutchinson to send the game to extra innings.
The Panthers and Spartans battled tough through extra innings as the Blue and Red were finally able to pull off the victory in the bottom of the 10
th completing the sweep, 7-6.
Hanover returns to action on Wednesday, May 5 when they travel to Mount St. Joseph. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
