Box Score 2 JACKSON, Miss. – Hanover dominates nightcap at Millsaps en route to split on Wednesday evening. The Panthers dropped game one 10-4 before rallying to take game two, 10-5.
GAME ONE
Hanover surged ahead early in game one as junior
Kendra Hutchison (Lafayette, Ind.) hit a solo shot in the top of the second inning to give HC the 1-0 lead.
However, the excitement didn't last long as Millsaps responded in the bottom half the inning knotting the contest at 1-1.
The Panthers provided the next blow in the top of the fourth inning following another homerun by Hutchison, 2-1. But the momentum was short lived as Millsaps added two in the bottom half of the inning and three in the fifth inning to push the difference to 6-2.
The sixth inning would see the Panthers look to rally behind freshman
Lauren Beaman (Indianapolis, Ind.) who hit a single through the left side scoring sophomore
Ava Hilgenhold (Tell City, Ind.). Junior
Katherine Dickinson (Francisco, Ind.) connected on a fielder's choice that scored Hutchison pulling Hanover within 6-4 before ultimately dropping the game 10-4 in the bottom half of the inning.
GAME TWO
After surrendering three runs in the first inning the Panthers went to work. The bright spot came in the top of the fourth inning led by Beaman who homered to left field plating two runs.
The excitement continued as Dickinson provided another clutch hit with a double to right center giving HC the 5-3 lead. They would tack on three more runs late in the inning behind a double by sophomore
Carson Bennett (Batesville, Ind.) who plated the Panther runners, 8-3.
Millsaps got one run back in the bottom half of the inning, but Hanover got the final say as they added an insurance run in the sixth inning and one in the top of the seventh inning to secure the 10-5 victory.
Hanover returns to action on Thursday, March 3 when they compete at Birmingham- Southern. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM CST.
