Women's Track & Field claim HCAC Outdoor title after stellar weekend

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Panthers claimed the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship over the weekend with a meet best 165 points.
 
The Panthers also captured two marquee awards as senior Jessica Beckman (Glenwood, Ind.) was named the HCAC Thrower of the Year and head coach Rachel Sharpe the HCAC Women's Coach of the Year.
 
Beckman displayed great success taking second in the discus throw with a toss of 43.08 meters while also finishing third in the shot put with a throw of 12.52 meters. Her podium finishes continued as she took third in the javelin throw with a distance of 37.44 meters and second in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.85 meters.
 
Sophomore Nina Jazdzewski (Paris, Ky.) was crowned an HCAC champion in the pole vault as she won the event with a vault of 2.96 meters. Teammates, junior Aliza Boles (Lexington, Ind.) finished second with a height of 2.66 meters and junior Ally McGuire (Guilford, Ind.) third with a mark of 2.51 meters.
 
In the discus throw, sophomore Jessie Stenger (Brookville, Ind.) claimed the top spot with an event winning throw of 43.62 meters, earning her all-conference honors. She also displayed success in the shot put finishing second with a throw of 13.50 meters.
 
Junior Amberleigh Sorensen (Yorktown, Ind.) claimed all-conference accolades in the 800-meter run, winning the race with a season best time of 2:24.55. She also took second in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:57.45 while finishing fourth in the 5,000-meter run.
 
Sophomore Hanna Whitney (Huntington, Ind.) gathered all-conference accolades in the 3,000-meter steeple chase crossing the finish line in third place with a time of 12:47.50.
 
Senior Zaleeya Martin (Shelbyville, Ind.) found success in the 100-meter dash taking third in a time of 12.39 seconds. The senior turned in a fourth place mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.75 seconds.
 
Junior Kennadi Lakins (Crothersville, Ind.) turned in a strong showing in the high jump as she captured all-conference honors with a third place mark and a height of 1.51 meters.
 
In the hammer throw, senior Lydia Lupinski (Zionsville, Ind.) registered a fourth place finish with a distance of 42.43 meters.
 
In 10,000-meter run, freshman Sarah Jones (Greencastle, Ind.) ran a strong race finishing fourth in a time of 40:41.57.
 
Martin also teamed up with Jazdzewski, junior Natalie Day (Sellersburg, Ind.), and McGuire to claim fourth in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 52.17 seconds.
 
With first place on the line, the 4x400-meter relay team of Day, junior Kelli Brock (Mooresville, Ind.), Jazdzewski, and sophomore Emma Litzelman (Plainfield, Ind.) delivered taking sixth earning the two points the Blue and Red needed for the title.
